The Pacific Youth Council Secretariat or ‘the engine room’ as we like to call it was revived on October 1st 2008. This was made possible by the Pacific Leadership Program – AusAID and the Secretariat of the Pacific Community.
In the true spirit of partnership and regional networking, the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), Pacific Leadership Program (PLP) and the Pacific Youth Council (PYC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to support the initial establishment of the PYC Secretariat including the hiring of a full-time Secretariat Coordinator.
The Secretariat is hosted by the SPC Human Development Programme (HDP) at the SPC Nabua campus in Suva, Fiji Islands.
The Secretariat Coordinator is Ms. Tarusila Bradburg or Taru as she is most commonly known. The youthful and smiling Fiji national, and mother of a budding rugby player, has brought to PYC more than 10 years of experience working with young people, women, and communities. Taru joined PYC from the Fiji Ministry of Youth and Sports where she was attached as youth officer to the Research, Training and Development Unit.
Her core function in the Unit was to strengthen networking and partnerships with Ministry stakeholders particularly with civil society and development partners. She is also an active member of the Fiji Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), and a former executive member of the YWCA world body. Taru holds a Commonwealth Youth Programme Diploma in Youth in Development Work from the University of the South Pacific, and is a graduate of the Development Alternatives with Women for a New Era (DAWN) Training Institute held in Cambodia in 2011.
